The city parties as FC Barcelona wins Champions League

Last night’s 2-0 victory against Manchester United in the Champions League in Rome meant that for the first time ever Barça had won the treble – the Copa del Rey, Spanish League and Champions League.

This was Barcelona’s third ever Champions League title and amazingly the first year with Pep Guardiola in charge.

While it took a few minutes for Barcelona to warm up, with a missed opportunity for Ronaldo, once they stepped up the pace they dominated the match. Samuel Eto’o's goal in the 10th minute was an early morale boost and while it looked to be a question of time before a second goal, it wasn’t until the 70th minute that Lionel Messi scored off his head, off a pass from Xavi.

In Barcelona the night was electric – the city was in a party mood with seemingly every second person dressed in a Barça shirt, and hours before the match people tooting their car horns and shouting Barça, so it was no surprise to see fireworks and celebrations in the streets.
