FC Barcelona top of Spanish League after beating Real Madrid
The centre of Barcelona went crazy on Saturday night after FC Barcelona beat Real Madrid in “El Clasico”, a 2-0 win at the Bernabeu.
Stars of the night were Lionel Messi and Pedro, who scored in the 32nd and 56th minutes, but also Victor Valdes, who saved the night for Barça with three brilliant saves when the Barcelona defence was breached by Madrid.
The result puts FC Barcelona at the top of the league, three points ahead of Real Madrid. With just seven matches remaining it hardly guarantees Barça to take the league title. However, it is a real body blow to Madrid, who have lost all four matches against their arch-rival since Pep Guardiola. And while second place in the league is a good result by most people’s standards, coming second place to Barcelona just isn’t acceptable to Real Madrid.
