The Tour de France comes to Barcelona
With Barcelona currently under the grip of a heatwave, cyclists participating in the Tour de France somehow have to find some extra energy when they arrive in the city on 9th July.
The bikes will arrive in Barcelona along Rambla de Guipúscoa and Consell de Cent, past the Parc de la Ciutadella, along Passeo de Colom and the port area, up Paral·lel to Plaça Espanya and then up Montjuic hill to the Estadi Olimpic – you can download a map of the route here.
To celebrate the occassion, a giant Mexican wave has been organized so the progress of the race can be seen easily from the air. Spectators will be handed yellow sheets of card which they should raise when the cyclists pass, creating a highly visible tide as the lead cyclist makes his way along the route.
The riders are expected to arrive in Barcelona at around 17:00.
