Barcelona Comic Fair 2009

Barcelona will be hosting its 27th annual Saló del Còmic de Barcelona – Comic Fair – at the Fira de Barcelona, from 29 May to 1 June, among the premiere events of its kind in Europe. Among the novelties, exhibitions and events and be open for visits from 29 May to 1 June at the Fira de Barcelona in the same year it was announced that Batman will visit the city in a forthcoming adventure.

Highlights include an exhibition on football in comics entitled “Viñetas en fuera de juego” (Offside comic strips). The exhibition will include Capitán Tsubasa, the Barça supporting Eric Castel, the fanatic Curro Córner, the classic Pepe el Hincha, the football adventures of Mortadelo y Filemón and the quips of Kap and Cels Pinyol, the creator of Fanhunter, which is set in an apocalyptical version of Barcelona, will be celebrating 20 years at the Fair.

Invited Guests

French author David B. will be accompanied by the veteran François Bourgeon, the author of such classics as Les Passagers du Vent (The Passengers of the Wind) and Les Compagnons du crépuscule (Twilight Companions).

Tome and Janry, who revived Spirou are joining in the celebrations being held by the Belgium Tourist Office.

Jim Lee, the graphic artist of “Batman: the Dragon’s Knight” will be joined by the writer Mark Waid, author of the canonical “Kingdom Come”, a long-time writer for “The Flash” and, of course, “Batman: the Dragon’s Knight”.

Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy, and Jim Starlin, the author who revolutionised the Marvel in the eighties, will be dropping by Barcelona.

Activities

The Filmoteca de Catalunya has a season of films linked to comics, including “Sin City”, “Batman Begins”, “300″ and “Iron Man” as well as “Asterix and the Vikings” and “Mortadelo y Filemón: Misión Salvar la Tierra”.
