Barcelona Boat Show 2008

Barcelona Boat ShowThe 47th Barcelona Boat Show – Salón Náutico Internacional de Barcelona 2008 – is to take place between 8th-16th November at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition and conference halls near Plaça Espanya and Port Vell International Floating Boat Show at the foot of the Ramblas.

The 600 exhibitors from around the world will fill over 100,000 square metres of exhibition space with 1,700 boats at the Fira, plus another 270 in Port Vell. Catering for both professionals and public alike, the Barcelona Boat Show will dominate Barcelona for the week – the previous show saw some 180,000 visitors and hotels are expected to be brimming with overseas visitors despite the global credit crunch.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Innovation Area, located in Pavilion 4, in which house yacht design studios, foundations, research teams and organisations that develop technologies applied to navigation.

The increased number of boats in Spain has also led to an increase in the number of boats that are abandoned and subsequent ecological impact. To counter the damage caused by unused boats to the environment the Boat Recycling Centre project has been created, with the aim of reducing the impact caused by abandoned boats and reutilising any usable materials. It is expected to become operational in 2010. And another topic of importance due to climate change is meteorology and the changes that have occurred in recent in the Mediterranean.

Other activities include exhibitions of paintings, photos and model boats as well as fun areas for the kids.
