Barcelona metro
Barcelona’s metro system consists of a comprehensive network of stations that make getting around Barcelona quick and easy.
The metro is run by TMB and the lines are colour-coded to make identification easier – L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5 and L11. In addition to the metro system there are 3 commuter lines operated by FGC, numbered L6, L7 and L8 and a funicular railway to Montjuïc.
Access to the metro system is gained by inserting your ticket into the slot in the automatic turnstiles, although children under 5 can travel for free. The machine will validate your ticket and stamp the reverse of your ticket with the date and time.
There are several types of ticket available, from a single use card to multi-use, integrated transport cards. Tickets are available from the following outlets, although not all ticket types are available from every outlet:
- TMB customer service centres
- Metro ticket offices
- Metro vending machines
- Newsagent’s kiosks
- Lottery shops
- Servicaixa machines (located in branches of La Caixa bank)
- FCG railway stations
- Barcelona Tourist Information Offices
