Barcelona metro

The Barcelona Metro is a comprehensive network of stations making it quick and easy to get around Barcelona.

Run by TMB, the metro lines are colour coded to make identifying the line you need easy – L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5 and L11.  There are also three communter lines operated by FGC, which are designated L6, L7 and L8 and also a funicular railway to Montjuïc.

The metro is accessed by inserting a ticket into a slot in the automated turnstiles and children under 5 travel free. The machine validates your ticket and stamps the reverse with the date and time.

Several types of ticket are available including a single trip card and integrated transport cards available for multiple trips. Tickets are available from the following sales outlets, although it should be noted that not all outlets sell all ticket types:

  • TMB customer service centres
  • Metro ticket offices
  • Metro vending machines
  • Newsagent’s kiosks
  • Lottery shops
  • Servicaixa machines (located in branches of La Caixa bank)
  • FCG railway stations
  • Barcelona Tourist Information Offices
