Hotel Vela for the chop?
One of Barcelona’s newest 5-star hotels may be demolished, according to news reports.
Hotel W – known locally as Hotel Vela, or “Hotel Sail” due to its shape – has spectacular views of the Mediterranean. However, it spoils the shoreline of Barcelona, where its modern design and height are completely out of place.
A number of organisations have attacked Barcelona’s mayor, accusing him of favouritism to multi-national companies, such as Starwood Hotels, the owner of Hotel W and issuing building permits illegally. A a total of ten different associations are engaged in legal action that if successful with result in the demolition of the building.
