Centric Point Hostel, Barcelona – great budget accommodation in superb location
The Centric Point Hostel, in Passeig de Gracia, has become, quite justifiably, one of the most popular hostels in the entire city of Barcelona.
Obviously the hostel’s location is one of the first things that attracts potential guests. Situated right next to the Passeig de Gracia Metro, on one of the city’s most elegant streets – as opposed to some of the dark, side streets in which many hostels find themselves – and a minute’s walk from Casa Batllo, and only slightly further to Plaça Catalunya and Las Ramblas, this hostel is in a safe, yet central, part of town.
A part of the well-known Equity Point group of hostels, the 400 bed Centric Point Hostel offers everything from single rooms, doubles and dormitories sleeping as many as 12 people. Many of the rooms have their own private facilities and all of the hostel fits the description of ‘good, basic and clean’.
The building itself is a 6 storey hostel, with two elevators, and a huge bar and common area – this has 8 internet PCs and satellite television. If you have your own lap top computer, there is wireless internet available for guests.
Breakfast, consisting of cereals, toast, juices, fruit, etc is included in the cost of a room and more than one guest has commented on the quality of the gazpacho available at the bar.
Guests appreciate the organised activities available from the Travellers’ Desk, such as Tapas Tours, for example, and certainly the key card access, giving that additional sense of security.
There are one or two things to bear in mind, though. Try to make sure you don’t get a room on the second floor that is close to the common area – it can get rather noisy. The hostel is very popular with parties of school children and students – the average age of guests is quite young – so most nights of the week tend to become Party Nights! Also, although some bed linen is included, blankets and towels are additional costs, as are lockable lockers.
All-in-all, the Centric Point Hostel gives travellers clean, secure accommodation in a superb location – and is an extremely sociable place to spend a few days.
