Barcelona Ramblas Hostal

The Ramblas Hostal , on Nou de la Rambla 50, is, in many ways, a backpacker’s dream – clean, comfortable, cheap; it fits perfectly into the more modern idea of what a hostal should be like and should provide.

First of all, let’s begin with location. The best way to get here is probably to take the Metro to Liceu and then wander down Las Ramblas for 100 yards or so- towards the sea – and take the second street on the right; that’s the Nou de la Rambla. In other words, you’re near the centre of the Raval district with its lively, Bohemian and cosmopolitan nightlife, and yet still within comfortable distance of Plaça de Catalunya, the Barri Gòtic and the sea. Just about perfect.

Then there’s the rooms. Well, the Ramblas Hostal offers the choice of single, double and triple rooms – all of them with a television and many with their own bathroom. Unlike some hostals, linen and towels are included in the price and all of them have air conditioning. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the street but all of them at least have outside windows.

Other features sure to attract guests are the common room area with television, the free WiFi access, the free breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen and a good, secure luggage storage service. The predominantly young staff have built up a reputation for friendliness and most of them speak reasonable English.

As you might expect for such a well-equipped hostal in the centre of Barcelona’s party area, the Ramblas Hostal is extremely popular and often fully booked so your accommodation really needs to be reserved in advance.

If you’re looking for reasonably priced, basic but clean accommodation, and a friendly informal atmosphere, the Ramblas Hostal is pretty well as good as it gets.
