Ryanair set to increase flights to Girona

Ryanair has promised to increase the frequency of existing Scottish routes to a number of locations, including Girona-Costa Brava airport after confirming it will cut 17 routes from Shannon Airport atthe end of March. It will also reinstate flights to Girona-Costa Brava from Robin Hood Airport for the summer.

The cuts will results in the loss of 150 jobs and a 75% cut in capacity – passenger numbers will be reduced from a 2007 high of 3.6 million to about 1.25m unless a replacement carrier is identified.

Ryanair will redeploy the aircraft due to operate from Shannon to other Ryanair bases in Continental Europe; the airline is understood to be seeking a 50% cut in its operating costs at Shannon and says these airports have axed tourist taxes or reduced airport charges.
