Girona – Barcelona Bus
For a growing number of people, Girona has become their destination airport when heading for Barcelona. Northern Catalunya’s largest city, and well worth spending some time in, it is just over 100 kilometres (about 64 miles) from Barcelona itself. The Girona to Barcelona Bus is the most straightforward way of getting into Barcelona from the airport.
Operated by the Sagalés Bus Company, and at a cost of 12 euros for a single ticket or 21 euros for a return, the bus runs to a timetable coordinating with RyanAir’s schedule. The bus will take you directly from the airport at Girona into the heart of Barcelona, arriving at Estació d’Autobusos, Barcelona Nord, the main bus station. The trip takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. Once here, leaving by the exit marked Sortida Nàpols, it is a few minutes walk to the Arc de Triomf Metro station, on Red Line, Line 1, which will connect you with the rest of the city.
A word of warning about your return trip, though. There is also a Sagalés bus that runs into Girona city centre, so make sure you don’t get on that one because your timing could go completely wrong! It’s also important to remember that, although the timetable is geared towards RyanAir flights, the bus company is completely independent of them. That means that the plane won’t wait for the bus if it’s late and you’ll have no opportunity to claim any compensation. As always, it pays to allow plenty of time, just in case of delays.
If you require more information about the Girona to Barcelona bus, this is available at +34 93 593 1300, and an English-speaker will be available. Sagalés also have a website, www.sagales.com, with some of it, including the timetable section, available in English. It isn’t possible to reserve tickets in advance but availability is not a problem.
