Flights from Manchester to Barcelona
There are several airports in the north-west of England that fly directly to Barcelona and these flights often offer excellent value to travellers. Manchester International Airport, for example, now offers several ways for passengers to travel to the Catalan city.
For example, at the time of writing, Monarch Airlines schedule has 6 flights from Manchester each week to and from Barcelona’s main El Prat airport. This number of flights decreases to 4 days over the winter. As with all of the so called no-frills or budget airlines, the earlier in advance you book your flights, the better the deals you are likely to be able to find. Avoiding flying at the weekends, if possible, is a further way of reducing the cost.
Bmibaby currently fly 3 times each week to Barcelona – with some flights available at £21.99, including taxes.
Ryanair fly 4 days a week from Manchester to Girona airport, just about 100 kilometres from Barcelona itself. The Sagalés Bus Company have a scheduled service, which co-ordinates with Ryanair’s schedules, into Barcelona, at a cost of 12 euros for a one-way journey or 21 euros for a return ticket. The journey takes about 90 minutes.
It’s also worth having a look at the British Airways flights when considering the journey to Barcelona from Manchester. There are no direct flights currently but it is possible to get flight connections at both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports. During my research for this piece, I discovered it was possible to fly in this way for as little as £75 each way – with much better leg room than on some of the other flights to compensate for having to break into your journey and take two planes.
There are, of course, many sites that offer air tickets to web customers and they can frequently unearth some genuine bargains – as well as unlikely flight connections. Two of the best are still www.lastminute.com and www.cheapflights.co.uk – both of which include bmibaby and Monarch in their searches.
Manchester International Airport has developed considerably during recent years and is now one of the most modern in Britain. It is also becoming an increasingly convenient place to begin your journey to Barcelona.
